AFO 10 (2009) Swords of Orlandia 3
Anime Festival Orlando offers its attendees an interactive convention experience, a unique collection of activities involving card games, leveling, the earning of achievements, and role-playing, in which they can participate as part of the convention. I was commissioned by the convention to create gaming and promotional assets for this experience as well as the overall convention. I also collaborated with other writers to create the story, script writing for dramatic scenes, and even played a character for the scenes.

Convention Guide Cover
I designed the cover of their con guide to fit with the fantasy theme as well as help promote the experience. I took inspiration from the covers of gaming guides for Dungeons & Dragons, as designed by Henry Higginbotham, which have the look of magical texts that might be carried by wizards.
Storybook Cover
In addition to the convention guide, AFO decided to print an additional book containing story and artistic content for the Swords of Orlandia sub-brand. This is an earlier version that I designed before we decided to create an overall omnibus of all the Orlandia material for that year.
Secret Messages
I created an alphabet for an ancient language used by the Anarchs faction to relay secret messages. These images were posted on a Twitter account dedicated to distributing updates about the Orlandia storyline. Attendees were offered the challenge of decrypting these messages using a key that was available at the convention.
Prophecy
I designed this as another decryption challenge for the attendees.
AFO 10 Flyer
I designed this flyer as a cut-out concept, along the lines of something die-cut, except we actually cut these by hand. These flyers were distributed by a costumed crow-like character at other conventions.
Shadowfowl
This was an early design for the convention's t-shirts. The underlying theme of the storyline involved a phoenix and heroes marching for her cause against the Shadowfowl, an evil army of crow-like creatures loyal to a demonic emperor.
